The NSW heritage plate ‘5‘ was originally issued to Lady MacCormick, of “Kilmory“, Point Piper.

Lady MacCormick was the wife of well known surgeon, Sir Alexander MacCormick.

In 1983 it was the second lowest number to be offered at The Great Plate Auction, and according to our records it sold for $49,500.

The median house price in Sydney was $81,000 at the time, so paying $49,500 for a number plate would have been a big deal back then.

Today’s median house price in Sydney is a little over a million, and given this plate would probably be worth closer to two million (or more) you’d certainly have to say the plate turned out to be a far better investment despite the huge gains that Sydney property has enjoyed in recent years.

The plate has been displayed on a Bentley Continental GT for the last few years, and more recently on an Alfa Romeo Giulia.
